Ann Rozhon

Ann Rozhon’s work expresses her love of nature... of texture and color woven into a complex tapestry of shapes on the canvas or modeled in clay. Rozhon approaches whatever project she’s working on with honesty and with a genuine, inspired response to the chosen subject matter. When discussing painting, she states, “I love researching my subject, taking photos and working from thumbnail sketches of exciting local sites.” Weather permitting, you will often see her on a beach or hillside painting plein air.

Rozhon’s newest series of sculptural reliefs merge her extensive knowledge of materials with an ever-expanding palette of vibrant color. They continue Ann’s lifelong fascination with combining two and three-dimensional elements to suggest an open-ended narrative. The viewer is asked to first discover the straightforward sculptural elements and then to explore the expressive use of paint which adds another facet to the work.

Ann received her B.F.A. from the Rhode Island School of Design and since has worked as an exhibit designer at the Roger Williams Park Zoo, as well as working on the reconstruction of architectural facades in downtown Providence. Ann became a full-time professional artist in 1985, and has been in many shows around New England and beyond. Artscope Magazine described her as a local “veteran power artist...” whose work “defines (her) as a truly focused and trained artist.”

Rozhon currently works out of her large sunlit studio in North Scituate where she conducts painting workshops and where she lives with her husband, Joseph Galvin. She is represented by The Charlestown Gallery in Charlestown, Rhode Island and The Louisa Gould Gallery on Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts.
